The 1990 Italian World Cup and the discovery of the Roman necropolis – 17.12.2021

On 17 December 2021, at the premises of Porta Palio, the exhibition “The World Championships of Italy ’90 and the discovery of the Roman necropolis” will be inaugurated. The exhibition traces the stages of the archaeological discoveries of 1990, recalling the protagonists and describing the characteristics of the necropolis of Porta Palio, via Albere and the Spianà. These large popular Veronese cemeteries along the Via Postumia have significantly increased scientific knowledge on the Veronese community of the Roman age, highlighting particular aspects of funerary rituals. The realization of the exhibition is the result of the collaboration between the Municipality of Verona – Unesco Relations Department, the Superintendence of archeology, fine arts and landscape for the provinces of Verona, Rovigo and Vicenza and the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the University of Pavia for the production of the graphic and multimedia contents present along the exhibition itinerary.
